My latest series of baskets are inspired by my recent work on our home interior. As a lover of all things modern and Scandanavian, our home has recently evolved into a reflection of these two design loves.
In the Scandanavian world, good design is woven into the DNA of their culture. Scandinavian design is playful and fun. While the backdrop is often a simple clean palette of white, an emphasis is placed on accentuating with colour. Often starting with the primaries: a scarlet red, canary yellow, or Klein blue – colorful rugs, art, furniture and flowers abound.
Here is where my latest series ‘Modern Scandi’ fits into this picture. Often in Scandavian design, pops of colour are bought into the home through interior accessories. This basketry series has taken cues from colour palette’s often found in Scandanavian interiors, and attempts to inject subtle colour into living spaces.
Each basket has been uniquely constructed from bakers twine in red, green, blue or black, in combination with my favourite core material of late – natural cotton rope. A select number of these baskets are now available online via Find Your Happy on Etsy.
